| How to Protect the Sail |
However great is durability of synthetic fabric, it's unable to stand dynamic loadings for a long time which a slamming sail is subjected to. The fraying of a sail out consists of its surface damage, sutures burst or fray through, connection between weft and fabric basis collapses, a sail loses the form. It is necessary to explain that a sail synthetic fabric, for decrease of porosity, is saturated with a resin filler and then is subjected to mangling - rolled between two heated rollers, as a result threads of the basis and weft melt and weld between themselves, decreasing of fabric disposition to stretching, fabric becomes more dense and its surface smooth and glossy. A filler becomes fragile and disposed towards bursting with time. If to examine attentively used dakronsail, it is possible to see thousands of small cracks. Naturally, that this senescence of canvas, which happens the faster, the worse is sail handling, spoil its surface and reduces efficiency. |

| Sail Fraying out |
There's an opinion among yachtsmen, that synthetic sail do not rot and therefore does not need especially thorough care. However it is not true. Many reasons can considerably worsen synthetic sail quality and even lead them to uselessness.
Unlike ordinary canvas used before, synthetic fabric is a hard material and therefore is more subject to fraying out at mechanical influences. Sutures, in particular, are susceptibilities. The timely discovery of one or two stitches which frayed out will allow to prevent the rapid dismissal of the whole suture. Scotch tape can be a good temporary mean to fix the damaged area of the suture in such cases. Naturally, damage of the sail is possible foremost where it touches anything. |

| Selection of the Yacht Type |
Sailing or Motor Yacht? It's certainly easier to learn to steer motor yacht, than a sailing yacht. Comfort for passengers and crew on a motor yacht is incommensurable more than on a sailing one. A motor yacht has less draft, than sailing one, as a rule it has higher speed of motion. In addition, there is no need to set a high mast, to buy expensive sails, to block a deck up with winches, ropes and other difficult sailing rubbish. However we need to pay for everything. Therefore it will be necessary to install two engines, not to remain the toy of waves in the case of engine death. In addition, constant fuel consumption requires its permanent compensation, what means expenses to purchase it. |

| Features of Motor Boats and Yachts |
Motor ships with size from 12,5 meters and more are named motor yachts through habit. In fact these are the same cruisers. Unlike the sailing yachts of the same size, motor yachts make long ocean voyages rarely. The main reason is impossibility to place plenty of fuel on board. Therefore to cross the Atlantic ocean on a 20-meter motor yacht is not a small achievement. There`s another reason: an average motor yacht is not so navigable, as good sailing yacht with a deep-seated heavy ballast keel and relatively low superstructure - such yacht can survive after complete capsize. |

| Classification of Boats |
Whether we like it or not, but there is integration into a common boat market. In order to understand things and phenomena clearly, to expose thoughts, wishes and requirements correctly, we need to use one language for everybody. And this is not always simple. There are many different specific terms. For example, “boating” is one of them.
"Boating" - this English word is used in special articles for description of phenomena related to the world of boats. Boating is the style of rest, the way of life, and trade. Word "cutter" (in German - kutter, Dutch - kotter, French - cotre) was initially used for denotation of a sailboat type which is known more as powerboat now. Small sizes, armed with a mast and oars (don`t be surprised, there were oar boats!), such boats were used mainly for maintenance of large ships.

| Fishing on Your Own Boat |
Fishing boats. What is so special about them? Aren't boats all the same? They are not as it appears. All fishing boats are divided into cruisers and fishing boats. Cruisers are much more comfortable since this is the main, what they are intended for. Quite different requirements are made to the fishing boats. Foremost, fisherman will feel more comfortable if he is able to go around a ship along the board; this requirement does not spread on cruisers. Fishing boats are build the way that on a perimeter of the ship, around a deck-house there was a wide passage-way, sunk below the side edge, protected by durable railings (metal hand-rails). This structural feature allows the crew and guests to move more confidently on a side. This conception of the fishing boat equipment got the name “walkaround”. |

A soft breeze tousles hairs, sun beams are jumping on water and trees, and waves evenly rock a small, but reliable ship... Yes, the charm of water trips can be described for a long time. Tens and hundreds of books, novels, funny and not very much stories are written on this theme. Turning the pages of the entertaining book of the English writer Jerome Klapki Jerome about adventures of the three in a boat, not counting a dog, one desires to give up his work, to pack camping implements in his boat and set out in the search of the new impressions with the couple of good friends.
...So, considering all the pros and cons, estimating the forces and possibilities, it is possible to proceed to the choice of the boat. Different types of water transport are presented at the market of sport and tourism commodities. Some of them are launches and catamarans, rubber, inflatable, rigid framework boats... Their hulls can be made both of fabrics, stretched on metal framework and of ordinary hard materials. Today, as heroes of many adventure novels, we’ll talk about the last one. |
